The local markets are really something every visitor to Phuket should see. You’ll see how local Thai people still practice basic market principles. Fresh fruit, veg, meat and cooked food are all available to buy, and you’d be amazed what you can buy at some of the larger markets.

Laguna is Rawai’s largest bar plaza, and probably the area’s best known night entertainment spot. There’s also a nightclub out back which stays open late 7 days a week.

There are about 10 different bars, with good American pool tables down the length of the bar area. As usual in Thailand you can easily find some “companionship” in here…

Chalong Circle is Phuket’s second busiest roundabout, and even late at night the traffic keeps coming.

If you visit Thailand you’ll quickly notice just how many motorcycles there are here.

Driving here takes some nerves – don’t expect other drivers to give way as they do in the west, and be prepared for anything to appear from anywhere.

Central Festival is one of the island’s biggest and busiest shopping malls. You can buy most items here, and there’s a great cinema if you need to waste a few hours watching the latest movies.

The third floor is home to most restaurants (there are a few fast food outlets on lowest floor) and the cinema (which has a really high specification, and comfortable seating).

Long exposure, but hopefully this shot shows you how nice Rawai Beach can be at night, with many Thai restaurants with tables and chairs on the beach side of the road. It’s not salubrious, but it’s wonderfully relaxing and laid back. The food on the beach is usually top notch.

Shot near Serenity Terraces in Rawai. Phuket’s east coast may not have the beaches of the western seaboard, but it has the most fantastic islands nearby and absolutely amazing tropical views.
